ACA Certifications We Offer

ACA SUP Level 1 and Level 2

This course is a combination of an American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) in either one or both L1 and L2 disciplines. It is an essential course for the SUP paddler looking to get certified and gain the experience and confidence needed to lead guided trips, and teach students to become safer, competent paddlers. The Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) provides SUP Instructors the basics of water safety and a solid framework of SUP teaching techniques. It is an intensive, fast-paced workshop designed to refine your instructional techniques and familiarize yourself with the intensive American Canoe Association SUP curriculum.

ACA SUP Level 3 Surf Course: 

This 2 day course is an American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) in the L3 SUP Surf discipline. It is an essential course for the SUP paddler looking to get certified, gain the experience, and confidence needed to teach students to become safer, competent paddlers in the surf zone and breaking waves. The Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) provides SUP Instructors the of ocean safety and a solid framework of SUP surfing teaching techniques. This is a fast-paced and intensive workshop designed to refine your instructional techniques and familiarize yourself with the intensive American Canoe Association SUP Surf curriculum.

  • Level 1 ACA Instructor Certification Workshop (2 or 3 days) - $375
  • Level 1 & 2 Combined ACA Instructor Certification Workshop (3 days$500
  • Level 2 ACA Instructor Certification Workshop (2 days) - $300
  • Level 3 SUP Surf ACA Instructor Certification Workshop (3 days) - $350
  • Board/Gear Rental for course participants (Includes: Board, Leash, Inflatable PFD, Paddle, Whistle) - $25 per day

              *Price does not include the $40 ACA membership. A $200 non-refundable deposit (applied towards the total cost of course) is required to reserve your space and can not be transferred to another course.*

  • ACA Level 1 is a two or three day course requiring prior paddling skills, knowledge and understanding of teaching methods
  • ACA Level 2 is a two day course requiring prior paddling skills, knowledge and understanding of teaching methods
  • Occasionally Level 1 and 2 curriculum courses are combined into a condensed three day course
  • In an instructor development workshop a certification exam is offered in all courses. 
  • When taking a combined Level 1 and 2 course, you will be assessed at the appropriate level, this being a Level 1 or 2 ACA Instructor

 

ACA PREREQUISITES

  • Must have proof of a valid and current First Aid and CPR certification 
  • Prior SUP experience and knowledge 
  • Must be a current member with the ACA. To become a member visit their website here
  • In order to take a single Level 2 or Level 3 SUP Surf course, a candidate must be ACA Level 1 certified 
  • In order to pass at the appropriate level, ACA Instructor Candidates must be able to demonstrate skills, knowledge and teaching ability to pass at the appropriate level
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

HOST A COURSE AT YOUR LOCATION

Have a location or interested in hosting a course? We offer courses offsite!

  • No cost to the Host for use of their waterfront and facility 
  • One complimentary slot in the course for a participant (certification based upon on passing)
  • Receive proceeds from the participating instructor candidates renting boards for the course
  • Receive assistance in handling registration and marketing for the scheduled course
  • Employees and staff requests for open class spots get preferred placement
